We have sent letters to all individual crime contract holders about additional contract amendments

We have sent letters to all individual crime contract holders about additional contract amendments. Amendments have been made to the 2010 Standard Crime Contract Specification to take into account the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012.

These amendments are additional to the ones we announced in a news article on 28 February, 2013 (see link below).

They have been subject to consultation with representative bodies and include supporting criminal legal aid regulations which come into effect on 13 May 2013.

The revised specification is available on the Justice website ? see below.

Extension to 30 September 2014

The term of the 2010 Standard Crime Contract has also been extended to 30 September 2014 (subject to our rights to extend the contract for a further period and/or our rights of earlier termination).

This aligns with the indicative timetable for the development and implementation of our competition strategy as set out in the Written Ministerial Statement of 5 March 2013, which is subject to the outcome of consultation.

Letter and formal notice

All individual crime contract holders were sent a letter and formal notice in the week beginning 8 April 2013 to inform them of the amendments and extension.
