Defending Benefit Fraud - Part 2
Welcome to Part 2 of ‘Defending Benefit Fraud’ presented by Cecilia Goodwin. This webinar aims to provide the listener with a brief overview of the historical landscape of the investigations and prosecutions relating to fraudulent claims for benefit. Within the last 2 years the Government has made an enormous amount of changes in this area, and has shaken up the benefits available to applicants. Whether these changes will provide financial savings for the Government make the application process less laborious is yet to be seen.
This webinar will also provide a guide for defending those accused of benefit fraud as well as equip and inform practitioners about the possible pitfalls that can ensnare even the most conscientious defence advocate.
Cecilia Goodwin is a criminal defence solicitor who has specialised in defending individuals accused of committing benefit fraud for the last 7 years. She also advises and represents applicants appearing before Social Security Tribunals to appeal against the withdrawal of benefits and recovery of overpayments.
