[2001] EWCA Civ 1547
A judge in a civil jury trial had a discretion as to whether to allow cross-examination of witnesses in relation to previous criminal convictions. An award of exemplary damages was excessive and would be reduced on the grounds that the judge had failed to give an adequate direction.
