The Conservatives are to accuse First Minister Jack McConnell of "effectively aiding and abetting" some of the most horrific crimes of recent years.

The attack comes as the party intensifies its criticism of the early release scheme for offenders.
Scottish Leader David McLetchie will make the claim at the Tories' one day pre-election conference in Dumfries.
And UK leader Michael Howard will say the "rights culture" has become "two fingers to authority".
