National Policing Lead for Honour Based Violence Commander Mak Chishty said:
"The police service has been clear that so- called honour based abuse is unjustifiable and we will arrest those who incite or commit honour based violence, as well as those who have a duty to stop it and don't. For several years, we have been working closely with health services, schools and colleges, social services, third sector organisations and those who have an understanding of honour based abuse and can help us reach those who may be at risk to tackle honour based violence.
"We are pleased that Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) also recognises the importance of protecting people from this abuse. Honour based violence is underreported and we will continue to raise its profile and encourage people to come forward. An assessment of the nature of honour-based violence by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary that also looked at the roles of other agencies could be valuable for police forces."
