Last night’s Fighting the Juries event was standing room only, a packed room, a powerful atmosphere, and a profession united. We heard clearly and unequivocally from Jason Lartey President of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors' Association (LCCSA). There must be no surrender and no compromise on the right to jury trial. He urges the profession’s representative bodies to reflect the strength of feeling amongst its membership and to take a clear and public position aligning with the profession it represents.

“Our members have spoken with one voice: No surrender. No compromise.”

The strength of feeling in the room was unmistakable. This is not abstract policy debate,  it is about the preservation of fundamental constitutional protections and the integrity of our justice system. The right to trial by jury is not a bargaining chip. It is a cornerstone.

If last night demonstrated anything, it is that the criminal defence community is united, resolute, and prepared to speak with clarity and conviction.

No surrender.

No compromise.
