The Crown Prosecution Service has published a list of 2,500 names to be on its first approved advocacy panel after a formal selection exercise aimed at removing advocates not up to scratch. The exercise has been controversial: the list contains 2,000 fewer advocates than the old, after many advocates on the old list did not reapply. Of those who did, three quarters were successful. The list marks the climax of several months? negotiations betweeen the CPS and the Bar.
