The courts that time forgot

Although the coroners' system has stayed pretty much unchanged for more than 700 years, that is no reason for leaving it as it is. I am not in favour of change for change's sake: I supported the Government's decision to keep the office of Lord Chancellor, even though it is significantly older.

However, it does seem bizarre that a statute passed in 1275 should still be the basis on which we investigate sudden or unexpected deaths in England and Wales.
