A judge jailed a man for assault yesterday, but set him free when he burst into tears.
Daniel Hardman, 21, started crying as Judge Denis Clark delivered his sentence at Liverpool Crown Court. The judge then suspended the sentence for two years, saying he'd seen Hardman's "genuine fear and remorse".
Hardman, of Leigh, Greater Manchester, had pleaded guilty to throwing a glass at a pub landlord. He was ordered to carry out 200 hours' unpaid work and pay his victim ?500.
