In sentencing an offender for summary-only offences, the Crown Court's sentencing powers as regards the aggregation of terms of imprisonment were subject to the same restrictions as were applicable in the magistrates' court, which, pursuant to the Magistrates' Courts Act 1980 s.133(1) and the Criminal Justice Act 1988 s.40, was limited to the imposition of a total sentence of not more than six months' imprisonment.
