Section 58 Crime and Disorder Act 1998 allowed a judge to impose consecutive extended licence periods. However, the defendant's sentence of ten years' imprisonment with a total licence period of ten years for sexual offences was reduced on appeal to eight years' imprisonment with an extended licence period of five years.
