[2007] EWCA Crim 1111

Where an appellant had been charged with possession of class A drugs with intent to supply and his defence was that police officers had planted the drugs in his car, the judge was entitled to ask questions of the police officer to establish the context of the evidence and to clarify the true state of the evidence.
