A judge was entitled to give an indication of likely maximum sentence on a guilty plea on a request from the defendant in the Crown Court and the practice in R v Turner (1970) 2 QB 321 need no longer be followed. Guidelines were given on the procedure to be followed in giving advance indications of sentence.
