The justices had been entitled to commit the applicant for trial to the Crown Court under s.24 Magistrates' Court Act 1980 even though he was 12 years old: they had properly considered the facts and law and concluded that the case was one where it might be appropriate for the child to be detained pursuant to s.53(2) Children and Young Persons Act 1933.
