[2008] EWCA Crim 2765

The court had been correct to impose a sentence of imprisonment for public protection in respect of a conviction for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life contrary to the Firearms Act 1968 s.16. However, the notional determinate sentence of 10 years was manifestly excessive and was reduced to 8 years, to take account of the offender's guilty plea, his remorse and the low to medium risk of his reoffending.
