A jury would have been entitled to infer from independent evidence of a similar event in similar surroundings as capable of supporting evidence about an event leading up to the rape of the victim, and subsequently that could support the overall truthfulness of victim's description of events on that occasion. Where a defendant denied a victim's allegations a direction on lies was not necessary and a general direction on the burden and standard of proof was sufficient.
