[2008] EWCA Crim 580

Perverting the course of justice was a grave matter because it struck at the root of the criminal justice system. Consecutive sentences of imprisonment for two counts involving the provision of false identity details to the police when stopped for serious driving offences was appropriate, especially since one of them had led to the conviction of an innocent person. The term of imprisonment for the less serious offence was reduced from nine months to three months.
