[2011] EWCA Crim 1497

Even though it had been referred to as recently as 2006 in the Sentencing Guidelines Council's Definitive Guidelines of Robbery, the case of R. v Turner (Bryan James) (1975) 61 Cr. App. R. 67 was out of date and no longer provided the same level of guidance to sentencing judges as it used to do. Terms of imprisonment on conviction of murder and other serious violence offences were currently higher than they were in 1975 when Turner was decided.
