[2006] EWCA Crim 1552

Where recorded material, such as closed circuit television footage, was incapable of being played on any machinery that a jury could take into the retiring room, then any replaying for the jury during retirement ought to take place in open court. It was not advisable to allow an officer of the court or a police officer to be present with the jury for the purpose of operating specialist equipment to replay the recorded material, though in the instant case there had been no real possibility that the jury's deliberations had been improperly influenced by the presence of an external individual.
