R v (1) DS (2) ML (3) MT (4) KT (5) NATHAN CHRISTIAN DENNY (6) NJ (7) RL (2012)

PUBLISHED June 20, 2012

[2012] EWCA Crim 1470

Taking into account their age, the presence or absence of previous convictions, and the element of deterrence, sentences of seven and eight years' detention were appropriate in the case of a group of young offenders who had entered very late guilty pleas to offences of false imprisonment and blackmail. They had held a 14-year-old boy against his will for some 36 hours, assaulting and threatening him while at the same time demanding £20,000 from his mother for his return.
