Although the United Kingdom's blanket prohibition on convicted prisoners voting in elections was incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights 1950 Protocol 1 art.3, the Supreme Court declined to make a further declaration of incompatibility. Further, EU law did not incorporate any right to vote on which convicted prisoners could rely.
