Plea over new prisons contract

Prison service bosses and union leaders believe they can compete with the private sector to build and run new Scottish jails.

Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson is letting them bid for the second of two proposed prisons.
However, the Prison Officers' Association (POA) said it believed the public sector should be given the chance to bid for both.
