The Ministry of Justice announced in December 2009 that it would develop new proposals for the competitive tendering of criminal defence services by March 2010.

This document describes the outline proposals that would see a significant restructuring of the delivery of these services under a tender process designed to encourage a more consolidated market.  The Ministry intends to consult on more detailed proposals over the summer.
