An elderly woman was being medically assessed after being allegedly held captive for more than 24 hours by a man said to be armed with a knife inside her home.

The 79-year-old is not believed to be seriously injured and was being treated at the scene in Oldbury, West Midlands.

A 40-year-old man came out of the property just after 11am on Monday, police said.

He has been arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment and has been taken to a police station.

Officers were called to the property shortly after 7am on Sunday, after concerns for the woman's welfare were raised.
