Elderly woman allegedly held captive inside her home in West Midlands for than 24 hours by man said to be armed with knife

An elderly woman was being medically assessed after being allegedly held captive for more than 24 hours by a man said to be armed with a knife inside her home.

The 79-year-old is not believed to be seriously injured and was being treated at the scene in Oldbury, West Midlands.

A 40-year-old man came out of the property just after 11am on Monday, police said.

He has been arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment and has been taken to a police station.

Officers were called to the property shortly after 7am on Sunday, after concerns for the woman's welfare were raised.
