Just out in time for Christmas is Lord Judge’s collection of lectures, speeches and essays The Safest Shield (the title comes from a quotation by Sir Edward Coke and refers to the rule of law). The collection spans his time as lord chief justice of England and Wales from 2008 to 2013 — and covers constitutional developments and judicial independence to personal reflections on topics such as the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations. He is donating all royalties to the Kalisher Trust.
