Will the legal profession come to look back fondly on the days when Chris Grayling was lord chancellor and reflect that as “the devil you know” he wasn’t so bad after all? Yet Michael Gove is not unknown. In some circles he is the devil known all too well. This marvellous quote surfaced in The Times archives from an article that he wrote in May 1999. It gives more than a hint of how he views the profession over which he now, in part, presides. “The real impediment to justice is the high level of legal fees,” he said.
