Killer fails to stop report release

Michael Stone, the murderer of Lin Russell and her six-year-old daughter Megan, lost his court attempt yesterday to bar the publication of a full report on his care and treatment.

A High Court judge ruled that publication of the report, detailing Stone?s treatment by mental health, probation and social workers before the murders, would not breach his human rights.

Stone, who was given three life sentences in 2001 for killing Dr Russell, 45, and Megan and the attempted murder of Megan?s sister, Josie, 9, at Chillen-den, Kent, in 1996, is suffering from a dangerous personality disorder that has been deemed untreatable.

Mr Justice Davis refused Stone leave to appeal. However, he agreed, ?with some reluctance?, to extend the order preventing publication until July 26 to give Stone time to ask the Court of Appeal directly to hear his case.
