Inmates have to pay for porridge

PUBLISHED June 16, 2004

Inmates at Dumfries Prison are being told to pay £1 for their porridge after officials scrapped the traditional fare in favour of rolls and jam.

The Scottish breakfast had been served for free, but a menu overhaul means inmates now have to pay.
The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said the change had been in force for about five weeks and would be reviewed.
