The proper time for the Attorney General to seek leave to refer a deferred sentence was within 28 days from the date on which the sentence was deferred. In the instant case, the Attorney General was debarred from referring the sentence, even though he had been unaware of the case until some months after sentence had been passed. The court also commented upon the misfortune of the offender suffering further punishment by the activities of the press.
