Home Office may cut payouts to victims of crime

David Blunkett, the Home Secretary, is considering substantial cuts in the budget of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme, the public-funded agency that compensates victims of crime.

The Home Office confirmed yesterday that a proposal had been submitted suggesting that as much as £25 million should be cut from the £160 million budget, a reduction of around 15 per cent.
