A police chief has branded figures which show a rise in violent crime and sexual offences in the past year in his force area as "misleading".

Martin Baker, Chief Constable of Dorset Police, said "low-level disorder" added to violent crime figures while sex offence counting rules had changed. The force is now lobbying for the way crimes are counted to be changed.
Although crime dropped by almost 8%, figures showed violent crime was up by 15.9% and sexual offences by 20.4%.
