New anti-terror legislation could be brought forward in the wake of the London attacks, Tony Blair said yesterday as he promised the most vigorous and intensive manhunt to find the bombers.

The new legislation, which was scheduled to be introduced next year, will be brought forward if police and the security services believe it is necessary, and will include measures to deal with acts preparatory to terrorism. It may also allow the authorities to expel extremist clerics from the country.
