Assaults on London's police officers have more than doubled in the past three years, according to new figures.

The statistics show between October 2003 and September 2004 there were 3,287 assaults compared with 1,267 the previous year - an increase of 160%.
The Metropolitan Police figures showed that of 33 London boroughs, 21 had recorded that assaults on officers had more than doubled in three years.
