Video released by the police shows Noel Reilly, 33, David Holmes, 31, Darren Buckley, 35, and 33-year-old Simon Phillips using a powerful circular saw to raid a cash machine.

The gang stole from Co-Op stores and a garage in more than 30 robberies all over the country during a 12-month period, making off with almost £700,000.

The four men admitted to conspiracy to burgle commercial premises and residential homes and were sentenced in Birmingham Crown Court to a total of 24 years and seven months.

West Midlands Police Inspector Warren Hines said: "These offences were clearly well rehearsed and, in some cases, committed very efficiently in just a matter of minutes.

"They used petrol-powered disc cutters to hack into the cash points and it's estimated the full toll of their exploits, taking into account the cash and cars stolen plus the damage to ATM machines, approached almost one million pounds."

The four men are subject to an ongoing court action under the Proceeds of Crime Act which means that any cash or assets found to have been obtained through illegal means will be seized.
