The government will proceed with £50m in cuts to crime victim compensation - but provide a fund of £500,000 for those who fall outside the scheme, the Ministry of Justice said.

After reconsidering proposals to end payments for claims below £2,500 and cut payments for claims below £11,000, and bring them back 'in a better form', minister Helen Grant said the plans would go ahead unaltered.

A spokesman for the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers said the new fund is 'little more than a token gesture'.
