The Use of Experts: Quality, Price and Procedures in Publicly Funded Cases

On Friday 26 November 2004 the Commission published a consultation paper that sets out a number of proposals to secure best value for money and assure the quality of expert witnesses paid for by the Commission.
 
The paper sets out a number of proposals regarding the use of Commission funded expert witnesses in civil and criminal cases. These proposals can be grouped under three main headings:

  • Guideline fees
  • Proposals for accreditation to ensure the quality of expertise provided
  • Standard terms of instruction
