Cathy Jamieson, the justice minister, walked straight into more blunders yesterday by Scotland's new privatised prisoner escort service.

As she toured courts in the wake of four wrongful releases by security firm Reliance, a sheriff was forced to quit the bench after the firm failed to assign guards for dock duties, blaming staff shortages.
