Matters relating to the granting or refusal of bail under the Bail Act 1976 did not, in themselves, provide good and sufficient reasons to extend custody time limits. Section 22 Prosecution of Offences Act 1985 provided a separate and distinct protection to the defendant over and above that of the 1976 Act.
