A sentence of two years' imprisonment imposed in respect of an offence of theft following an offender's committal to the Crown Court for sentence under the Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000 s.6 was unlawful as, in contrast to committal for sentence under s.3 of the Act, the court's sentencing powers under s.6 were limited to those of the magistrates' court.
