An accused was not asserting his own good character and did not lose his shield against his previous convictions being entered into evidence by: asserting he was a successful businessman; asserting that his family were respectable; refusing to name a friend as a witness because he did not want him to know he had been accused of an offence; holding a bible when giving evidence.
