In the circumstances, and as a result of truly exceptional personal mitigation, a sentence of imprisonment, which had already been heavily discounted by the sentencing judge, was suspended where the defendant was an elderly Hololcaust survivor of positive good character, who had been involved in the money laundering of the proceeds of a substantial cigarette smuggling operation.
