R. v Medway (Andrew George) [1976] Q.B. 779 was still the leading and governing authority in cases concerning abandonment of a proposed appeal against conviction. The Criminal Procedure Rules 2010 r.65.13 could not be interpreted as giving discretion to reinstate an appeal, even where its abandonment could not be treated as a nullity under Medway.
