An extended sentence of five years, comprising a custodial term of three years and an extended period of licence of two years, imposed on an offender with a history of violence was excessive for an incident involving a single blow and was therefore quashed and replaced by a four-year extended sentence comprising a custodial period of two years and an extended licence period of two years.
