[2011] EWCA Crim 3112

A starting point after trial of 30 months' detention in a young offender institution in relation to females aged 16, 18 and 19 who had attacked a 16-year-old girl on the top deck of a bus late at night, stealing her mobile phone, was too high, even though two of the offenders had criminal records and one had been on bail at the time of the incident. The offence was at the very top of Level 1 of the relevant sentencing guideline, and the recorder had erred in placing it at Level 2.
