[2009] EWCA Crim 245

A sentence of seven years' imprisonment imposed following a guilty plea to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence was reduced to six years as although the offence, which involved the firing of a gun over the victim's head during a matrimonial dispute, was a very serious one within the spectrum of offences under the Firearms Act 1968 s.16A, seven years was excessive when the maximum sentence for the offence was 10 years.
