When reducing a sentence of 18 months' detention in a young offender institution to 12 months' military detention it was likely that the reviewing authority had overlooked the fact that the early release provisions meant that a young offender would serve only half the term imposed whereas a soldier in military detention was only entitled to remission after serving two thirds of a sentence.
