[2013] EWCA Crim 3354

A sentence of detention for public protection imposed on a young offender was quashed and an extended sentence of seven-and-a-half years was substituted under the Criminal Justice Act 2003 s.228. Having regard to the offender's young age as well as the positive sides to his character, an indeterminate sentence was not necessary and the public protection against the risk that he posed could be achieved by an extended sentence.
