The guidelines issued by the Sentencing Guidelines Council were not to be regarded or applied as if they were a judicial straitjacket and a sentence of 18 months' imprisonment imposed on a predatory offender who encouraged underage girls in internet chatrooms to send him indecent images of themselves for sharing and distribution could not be characterised as manifestly excessive.
