A sentence of 10 years' imprisonment imposed on an offender following his conviction for an offence of arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered, which had been committed during an escalating campaign of railway vandalism, was excessive. The sentence was quashed and replaced with one of seven-and-a-half-years' imprisonment.
