Where there were no exceptional circumstances a custodial sentence for a violent street robbery was inevitable and not wrong in principle. Whilst on the facts no decision was called for, the court indicated that the lack of availability of a suspended sentence for a young offender was unlikely to amount to a breach of the European Convention on Human Rights 1950 Art.14.
